The Time Loop, or Augustis Returns Home – reportage (in Polish)

Prisoner of Soviet gulags, soldier in the Anders Army, emigrant, and former street photographer of pre-war Bialystok. His collection of negatives, miraculously found over twenty years ago, is the largest single collection of pre-war street photography in Poland. Together with Urszula and Grzegorz Dąbrowski, the collection’s custodians, we travelled in the footsteps of Bolesław Augustis all the way to New Zealand.

We invite you to listen to Dorota Sokołowska’s reportage from the Polish Radio Białystok Reportage and Documentary Studio. Premiere of the reportage on air: 20 March 2025.

The audio material for the reportage was collected, among other things, as part of a project carried out by the Association for Cultural Education ‘Widok’: ‘Bolesław August and the New Zealand Sybiraks. Querying and digitalisation of selected archival material’, subsidised from the funds of the National Institute of Polish Cultural Heritage Abroad “Polonika” and the budget of the City of Białystok.
