Veronika joined the Home Army in 1942, where she served as a liaison officer under the pseudonym “Drone”. The Soviets arrested her on 10 September 1945 and sent her to a labour-camp. Until 1954, she was imprisoned in camps in the Arkhangelsk region: in Yercevo, Ostrovnoye and in Vorkuta. After her release, she was sent to work at the Seida sovkhoz, where she stayed until 1956.
