No Right of Return – reportage

‘No Right of Return’ is a reportage prepared especially for the “World of Sybir” portal by Agnieszka Czarkowska and Alicja Pietruczuk from the Reportage and Documentary Studio of the Polish station Radio Białystok. The little known story presented in the programme, concerns the pacification of small gentry settlements in the eastern lands of the former Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and the deportation of several thousand of their inhabitants to Siberia. Only the descendants of the participants of these events, which took place during the January Uprising, have kept the memory alive. Alongside these descendant testimonies, the historians Professor Wiesław Caban of Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce and Tomasz Danilecki (PhD) of the Sybir Memorial Museum in Białystok also participated in the programme. The reportage was premiered on the 26th of January 2025 on the Polish station Radio Białystok.
