Wiesław Caban: The Polish landowners sent to Siberia did not leave much information about the meals they ate there. The vast majority of them mentioned it in their diaries and letters to their families in passing. They did not want to worry their relatives about their difficult financial situation and felt remorse that by plotting or fighting in the January Uprising, they had exposed them to the loss of their estates and a great deal of other suffering.
